Nine days from Vilnius to Tallinn, 1,126 km by coach through Trakai and Kaunas, over the Curonian Spit to Nida, past the Hill of Crosses to Rundāle, then Riga, the Gauja valley and the Tallinn town wall. The coach caps the group at 24, and the route runs with a guide in English or Lithuanian.
We run one coach route north through the three Baltic states: Vilnius, Trakai and Kaunas, Nida and the Curonian Spit, Rundāle Palace, Riga and Sigulda, then Tallinn. Nine days cover 1,126 km, and May to September gives the weather and the light. Jūratė Rolando was born in Lithuania and guides in English and Lithuanian, so a group in either language gets a guide who reads the country from the inside. This route is guided in English or Lithuanian. The whole group travels together on one coach.

Vilnius Old Town has been on the UNESCO list since 1994: the first walk runs from Cathedral Square to the Gates of Dawn, with cepelinai and šaltibarščiai for dinner, and the second day takes the university courtyards, the funicular to Gediminas Tower and the Užupis Constitution wall. Trakai Island Castle comes on the way west, its donjon finished in 1409, with Karaim kibinai for lunch. A Kaunas guide then walks the group down Laisvės Avenue for the interwar modernist architecture and the Town Hall Square.
The Smiltynė ferry carries the coach onto the Curonian Spit, which runs 98 km long, and the group climbs the Parnidis Dune for the sundial calendar at sunset. Nida holds the fishermen's cottages, the Thomas Mann house and the ethnographic cemetery with its carved krikštai grave markers, with smoked Baltic fish from the harbour stalls. On the way back the coach stops at the Hill of Witches in Juodkrantė before the ferry returns the group to Klaipėda.
The Hill of Crosses north of Šiauliai stops the group before the Latvian border, then a palace guide walks Rundāle Palace and its French formal garden before dinner in Riga. A Riga guide takes the next day: the House of the Blackheads, the Art Nouveau façades by Mikhail Eisenstein on Alberta Street, and the five Zeppelin hangars of the Central Market with the rye bread stalls. The lift in St Peter's Church reaches an observation deck 72 m above the ground.
The Gauja valley breaks the drive north, with the bergfried at Turaida Castle, Gutmanis Cave and its 17th-century wall inscriptions, and the Sigulda cable car, then lunch at Pärnu on the way to Tallinn. The last morning climbs Toompea for the Kohtuotsa and Patkuli platforms, the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and the Lower Town wall, which still keeps 26 towers. The coach then runs afternoon transfers to the airport or the port.
